Our mission: to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
Our vision: to intentionally build those who know Christ and passionately pursue those who don’t know Christ.
Our obsession: to glorify God and make Christ’s name renown.
Our dream: daughtering Bible-teaching, life-changing churches in western Sedgwick County, leaving us both healthy enough to do it again and again until our county is transformed for Jesus Christ.
We value . . .
1. The Authority of God’s Word
Because God’s word is God-breathed it is our authority changes lives as we faithfully teach and proclaim it. It is foundational, central and crucial for every aspect of life at Beacon Community Church (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13).
2. Supremacy and sufficiency of Christ
The Lordship of Christ is central to the Christian life. We live to exalt Him and obey Him. He is supreme and sufficient for all our needs and wants. His person, life, death and resurrection provide everything we need for a relationship with God (Colossians 1:15-22; Hebrews 10:11-12; John 15:1-5).
3. Vibrant worship
Worship is the proper response to who God is and what He has done. Thus it must be both personal and corporate. It is a life abandoned to God where we place ourselves on the altar to serve Him. Corporate worship should stir us and inspire us to full celebration and sober contemplation of the great God we serve (Psalm 29:1-2; 150:1-2; Romans 11:33-12:2).
4. Empowerment of the Holy Spirit
Nothing is accomplished except by the Spirit of God. God must work or all is lost. Because we are completely dependant on God we must devote ourselves to prayer and be filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit (Zechariah 4:6; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:16-26).
5. Authentic and passionate spirituality
God always looks at the heart and it is the heart alone that impresses God. Therefore our walk with God must be sincere, honest and dedicated as we follow Jesus, wrestle with sin and pursue being like-Christ. Our Christianity must affect the heart. The great truths revealed to us in the Scripture should seize our hearts and stir our minds and move us to dedicated worship and service (Deuteronomy 6:4-6; 1 Samuel 16:7; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Isaiah 29:12-14; Proverbs 4:23; Matthew 15:1-11).
6. Biblical community
Biblical community is the intimate and authentic sharing of our lives with one another. It occurs in a small group and in light of God’s word as we pursue Christ together (Proverbs 27:17; Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Acts 2:40-47; Romans 12:9-13; 1 Thessalonians 2:7-8).
7. Gift-based ministry
Because the Spirit has gifted every believer, and placed them in the body just as He desired, every believer is expected to exercise his gifts and serve the body of Christ. Some ministries will occur outside our Christian community to unbelievers while others will occur within our community (Romans 12:1-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-31; Ephesians 4:11-13; 1 Peter 4:10-11).
